Capturing your best friends' wedding is a privilege that’s hard to put into words. Back in July, we had the honour of photographing and filming the wedding of Jazz (she/her) and Elle (she/they), two amazing souls who mean the world to us. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and moments that were pure magic—and a few that had us all reaching for tissues.
The day started with Jazz and Elle getting ready separately, and we made sure no moment was missed. I headed to Jazz with Jamie, our second videographer, while Ells checked in with Jazz before joining Elle alongside Shannon, our second photographer. Capturing their pre-wedding moments was like being part of a beautiful calm before the joyful storm of the ceremony.
At Jazz’s getting ready, there were some truly beautiful moments, especially between Jazz and her twin sister, Millie. Millie had this incredible way of calming Jazz’s nerves, helping her into her dress, and then the moment that got us all choked up—Jazz gave Millie a necklace made from their parents’ rings. Watching them share that intimate and emotional exchange was a tear-jerker, even for me behind the camera.
Over at Elle’s, the excitement was just as strong. Their sister Lucy helped them get ready, and there was a gorgeous first look moment with their girls, sister, and parents. The energy was electric, with Elle’s usual calm confidence shining through, setting the perfect tone for what was to come.
Their entrance to The Red Barn? Iconic. Both Jazz and Elle arrived in mustard yellow vintage Land Rovers, lent by a family friend, adding a unique touch to their already one-of-a-kind day. It was such a fitting reflection of their personalities—cool, vibrant, and unmistakably them.
The ceremony itself was something truly special. Elle walked down the aisle with their dad to Grace Petrie’s Black Tie*and waited for Jazz at the bottom. Jazz followed with her mum, walking to Elderbrook’s Feels Like a Sunday. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
The celebrant Louise from Kickass Gatherings delivered a personal and touching ceremony that included the story of how Jazz and Elle met, along with deeply emotional vows. One of the best surprises? The ring bearer! It was hidden under a guest’s chair, making everyone chuckle before the final reveal of which way their double-barrelled last name would be. The guests had voted on it beforehand, and it was such a fun touch.
After the ceremony, the mood was one of pure joy as a brass band led the guests in singing Sweet Caroline, which flowed out onto the lawn where the sun was shining, and everyone was soaking in the good vibes. It was just the beginning of an afternoon full of surprises, with Jazz stunning Elle by bringing in a live oil painter to capture the essence of the day on canvas.
The group photos were taken near a meadow of wildflowers, where we also snapped a fun shot with their guests—dubbed “The Queers”—using colourful smoke bombs in rainbow colours. It was a vibrant, playful moment, and we all had such a blast together.
One of the most special moments of the day was during Jazz & Elle’s couple portraits. It was just the four of us—Steff, Ells, Jazz, and Elle—and the intimacy of that time was truly touching. You could feel the love and connection between them radiating in every frame.
And of course, the evening brought all the celebration vibes. A pizza van served up the best food before speeches kicked off. There were eight heartfelt speeches in total, filled with so much love and admiration for the couple. There was even a nod to the The Queer Campfire, an event Jazz and Elle created that had brought so many people together.
The night ended with a bang as the DJ played some old-school bangers that kept the dance floor packed. But what really made the evening unforgettable was the campfire out on the lawn, where guests gathered around, sharing stories and soaking in the warmth of both the fire and the incredible day that had unfolded.
Being both guests and vendors for Jazz and Elle’s wedding was such an honour. We even did a little speech/poem for them ourselves, which was emotional in the best way possible. It’s rare to witness two people who mean so much to you tie the knot, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. The day was one we’ll always cherish, and we’re so grateful to have been part of it—not just as photographers and videographers, but as friends who got to celebrate the love of two incredible people.
Jazz and Elle, thank you for letting us capture your day, and for showing us once again what love really looks like.
